Instructions for Following Utah 2006 Legislation

Following are a set of instructions for following Utah legislation that might be pertinent to members:

1) Go to: http://www.le.state.ut.us/
2) On the right hand side of the page you will see "Quick Bill Search"
3) If you are searching for a bill that is in the legislative process, make sure that the most current legislative session is selected on the pull down menu.  The website will have done it for you by default (theoretically).  Contact me if you want help in finding bills from previous legislative sessions.
4) You can "Find" (aka search) bills by sponsors, bill numbers, or keyword. I recommend using keywords such as: marriage, family, therapy, mental, child (will give you hits for "children" as well), divorce, domestic, and insurance.
    • Many bills are cross-listed in several categories so you may see the same bill frequently.
5) You will then see the "Search Results" page. Simply click the Bill/Link number and it will take you to the bill itself.
6) Once at the bill page you have several options.
    • To read the bill, look toward the middle of the page and find:
    • "Bill Text (If you are having trouble viewing PDF files"
    • You can then click on HTML and see the actuall bill that has been introduced.
    • You can also sign up to be notified by email any changes made in the bill and be updated as to the bill's progress and location.
Happy searching!
Nathan Wood, Legislative Chair
